Posted on 13. Feb, 2015 by in Business

If you have been considering a job change that gives you room to grow and advance, look toward the healthcare and technology fields. These two industries offer good salaries, but you will need a college degree. Three of these top jobs require post-secondary education, but one only requires an associate’s degree. According to U.S. News & World Report, the top jobs of 2015 are the ones that are hiring and offer a challenge. Here are five of the biggest growing positions with statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

  1. Dentists – The Affordable Care Act is making dental care more accessible to Americans. The BLS predicts that there will be more than 23,000 new positions for dentists between now and 2022. The median salary for a dentist is around $146,000.
  2. Nurse Practitioner – Although a Master’s Degree is required for this position, with a yearly salary approaching $100,000 if you can take the time to get your credentials, the market is wide open. It is predicted that more than 37,000 jobs will open in the next seven years.
  3. Software Developer – The BLS predicts that more than 140,000 jobs will be available in this field over the next seven years. Its growth rate is 22 percent, which is well above the average growth rate of 12%. You will make an average of about $44.00 per hour, and most companies only require a bachelor’s degree, but you will need to be creative and have experience in technology.
  4. Physicians – With a growth rate of 18 percent, becoming a doctor is a safe bet that you will have a job. However, the training does take a long time. The salary is quite impressive at around $187,000 annually.
  5. Dental Hygienist – Hygienists work beside dentists, providing more direct patient care and education. In this list of top five jobs, this one requires the shortest training time. Many community colleges offer associate’s degrees in just two years to become a hygienist. You can expect a salary of around $70,000 annually.
